For ED doctors and anyone who wants to learn how to get credentialed in Pocus in the acute care setting.
The two days are hands on with only very basic didactic teaching . The aim is to get attendees up and running and at the start of their road to credentialing in POCUS
Pre reading
A small amount of pre-knowledge about ultrasound artefact etc is required ( see introduction post or follow this link for a basic introduction and essential working understanding of ultrasound artefact etc)
1 ) A certain minimum amount of basic knowledge about ultrasound use and artefact in ultrasound is necessary . This wont be covered during the weekend but will be tested on in the mcq at the beginning . POCUS 101 covers all the necessary basic arterfact knowledge required. This should not be too time consuming to read
2) EFAST pre learning can be accessed here
3) Focussed cardiac ultrasound will be discussed and taught on the day and some insights are also posted on this blog . The teaching will be around the practical applications of a BSE level 1 echo and how to complete a “formative scan”
4) Because the main stumbling block to becoming credentialed in ultrasound scanning is performing a summative scan after completing the majority of a log book , the teaching day will aim to get trainees up and running with a log book and to have completed at least a formative scan in each modality before the end of the two day course .
Prior to attending the course please have the following MCQs completed and downloaded for review and marking when you arrive
